About the 2027 Event

What exactly is MUNS?

MUNS (Model United Nations Switzerland) is Switzerland’s national MUN conference, bringing together high school and university students for a professional simulation of international diplomacy. Through debate and negotiation participants develop skills in public speaking, leadership, diplomacy, and communication while connecting with students from across Switzerland.

MUNS aims to bring together Switzerland’s next generation of globally minded students through rigorous debate and meaningful exchange of perspectives.

Why students choose MUNS

[would be nice to first have a quick explanation of what committees are. e.g: At MUNS, participants will apply to/be assigned to e.g. two different committees. A committee is a group of about 80 participants that…
And of course some more details on what each of the committees looks like.]

Honors & Awards

MUNS presents nationally recognized awards for outstanding diplomacy, leadership, and participation throughout the conference. All awards are certified by the Union of Student Organizations (USO), giving participants meaningful recognition that reflects the professionalism and high standards of the conference.

Best Delegate

The Best Delegate Award is presented to the participant in each committee who demonstrates the highest level of diplomatic skill, knowledge, and overall contribution throughout the conference. At the end of the final session, the chairs of each council will deliberate and select one delegate who best represents these qualities based on their performance in debate, negotiation, resolution writing, and leadership. The award is formally announced during the closing ceremony, where each winner is called up individually and presented with a Best Delegate certificate, recognizing their achievement. Only one Best Delegate is awarded per council, ensuring that the recognition reflects the top-performing delegate in each committee and highlights excellence across all areas of the conference.

Best Opening Speech

The Best Opening Speech Award is given to the delegate in each council who delivers the most effective and compelling opening statement at the beginning of committee sessions. The opening speech is an opportunity for delegates to clearly present their country’s position on the topic, outline key issues, and set the tone for their participation in the debate. Chairs evaluate speeches based on clarity, structure, confidence, relevance to the agenda, and overall impact. At the end of the conference, one delegate per council is selected and announced as the winner. They are then presented with a Best Opening Speech certificate during the closing ceremony, recognizing their excellence in communication and ability to strongly represent their country from the very start of debate.

Best Chair

The Best Chair Award is presented to the most outstanding chair across the entire MUNS conference, recognizing excellence in leadership, fairness, and overall management of debate. The chair plays a crucial role in guiding discussions, maintaining order, ensuring procedural accuracy, and supporting delegates in producing meaningful and structured debate. Throughout the conference, chairs are evaluated based on their impartiality, clarity in moderating, time management, engagement with delegates, and ability to foster a productive and inclusive committee environment. At the end of the event, the organising team selects one chair who has demonstrated exceptional performance across all sessions and committees. This individual is then formally announced during the closing ceremony and awarded a Best Chair certificate, highlighting their outstanding contribution to the success and professionalism of the conference as a whole.

Best Admin

The Best Admin Award is presented to the most outstanding member of the Admin team across the entire MUNS conference, recognising exceptional dedication, organisation, and contribution to the smooth operation of the event. Members of the Admin team are responsible for supporting delegates and chairs, managing logistics, handling documentation, overseeing schedules, and ensuring that committees and conference activities run efficiently. Throughout the conference, admins are evaluated based on their reliability, professionalism, problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and overall impact on the success of the event. At the conclusion of the conference, the organising team selects one admin who has demonstrated exceptional commitment and performance throughout all stages of the event. This individual is then formally recognised during the closing ceremony and presented with a Best Admin certificate, honouring their essential contribution to the conference as a whole.

Best Reporter

The Best Reporter Award is presented to the most outstanding member of the Press team across the entire MUNS conference, recognising excellence in journalism, communication, and coverage of the event. Reporters are responsible for documenting committee debates, interviewing participants, writing articles, capturing key moments, and producing media content that reflects the atmosphere and progress of the conference. Throughout the event, members of the Press team are evaluated based on the quality of their reporting, creativity, professionalism, consistency, and ability to accurately and engagingly communicate conference developments. At the end of the conference, one reporter is selected by the organising team as the overall Best Reporter and is formally recognised during the closing ceremony. The recipient is awarded a Best Reporter certificate, honouring their contribution to documenting and representing the conference at the highest standard.

About the Organizers

Model UN Switzerland is organized by the National Student Organization (USO UCE UCS), Switzerland’s largest student-run organization. Since 1990, USO represents students across Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

USO brings together student councils and young leaders from all language regions. We work closely with partners such as the Swiss National Youth Council (SAJV), OBESSU, the European school student union, as well as Swiss and European government agencies.

Political Representation

USO organizes the annual National Student Assembly, the largest gathering of student representatives in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Each year, students from across the country come together to discuss the issues that affect young people directly with political leaders.

USO also organizes the Oxford Debating Competition Switzerland, the Swiss national selection for one of the world’s most prestigious high school debating competitions.

Competitions and Events

The event gives students the chance to practise argumentation, public speaking, and critical thinking, while connecting them to an international tradition of debate.
