National Student Assembly

The largest annual student assembly of Switzerland and Liechtenstein

What is the National Student Assembly?

The National Student Assembly (NSA) is Switzerland’s largest nationwide gathering of student representatives and engaged students. Organized by the Union of Student Organizations (USO), the official national voice of students in Switzerland and Liechtenstein, the NSA brings together young people from all language regions and all 26 cantons to debate, decide, and shape student policy at the national level.

Our mission is to make youth voices heard at the national political level. Each year, national decision-makers join the NSA to engage directly with students.

Maximilian Thiersch, Lead Organizer, NSA 2025

The voice of youth in one place

Switzerland is diverse: different school systems, cantons, and languages. The National Student Assembly is where these perspectives come together.

At the Assembly, students bring concerns and ideas from their schools, councils, youth groups, and cantons into a shared forum.

NSA 2025

The National Student Assembly 2025 was a two-day event held at ETH Zurich, convening over 80 student representatives, national politicians and the Chief of the Swiss Armed Forces.

Who is the NSA for?

The NSA welcomes:

  • Students aged 14–20
  • Student council members and school representatives
  • Delegates from student organizations and youth groups
  • Students who want to understand how youth voices can influence education and politics, even before voting age

Whether you’re experienced in student leadership or attending for the first time: if you’re motivated to improve school life and youth policy, you belong here.

What happens at the National Student Assembly?

The NSA combines national decision-making with hands-on discussion and dialogue.

1) National student decision-making

A core part of the NSA is the USO General Assembly, where student representatives from across the country:

  • debate and adopt official student positions on youth and education policy
  • define USO priorities for the coming year
  • elect key student leadership roles, including the national board, officially representing Swiss students

2) Hands-on Workshops

In smaller groups, you’ll work on topics that matter to students today, from school life to broader youth policy questions.

3) Dialogue with public life and politics

The NSA creates space for direct exchange with:

  • national politicians from the major parties
  • experts from education and society
  • public figures who care about youth perspectives

4) Community, friendships, and a national network

The NSA is also about meeting people. Shared meals, informal conversations, and time outside the sessions make it easy to connect with students from across the country. Many participants leave with new friends, future collaborators, and a network they stay in touch with long after the Assembly.
